CONSTRUCTION NOTICE – SANITARY SEWER LINING WORK ON ALLEN AND PEARL STREETS

Work anticipated to begin the week of February 6, 2023

Work hours are anticipated 7 am to 7 pm

** It is important to note that project schedules may change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. Due to the fluidity of work, we are unable to provide an exact time as to when work will take place on your street. Also note, work hours are estimates and crews may not be on your street for an entire day. If you notice crews mobilized or working on your street, this is the best time to practice the recommendations provided in this announcement. **

The City of Caro, Water Department has contracted with Monchilov Excavating and Sewer Services for sewer rehabilitation work in you area. Monchilov will be using “trenchless” technology to renew aging sewers without the need to excavate, which means less mess, less disruption and less time spent on your street compared to traditional digging and replacing.

During this process, commonly call cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining, a flexible felt material is saturated with two-part resin and is installed inside the existing sewer pipe. Once installed, the felt tube is cured by blowing steam through the sewer line, which hardens and becomes a new sewer within the existing sewer.             

During the installation period:

• Last approximately 8-12 hours, your house’s connection to the sewer in the street will be temporarily blocked off.
• Kindly limit the use of running water in you home during these hours.
• You may also want to keep the lid of your toilet closed and place a heavy object on the lid, as the high-pressure water-jetting may cause disruption or bubbling of the water in the toilet bowl.
• While they are rare, sewage back up can occur in your house or basement, heavy water usage such as laundry, long showers, baths or running sink water for extended periods is not recommended.

During the lining process, you may also notice a glue-like smell in your home, which is non-toxic and will dissipate – to help consider doing the following:

• Open windows and introduce fresh air into your home.
• It is recommended that you fill the trap on all floor and sink drains with a gallon of water to reduce the likelihood of odors.
• Washing machines and other appliances that may be hooked into an open drain that has no trap present, should be disconnected and plugged while the lining process is completed, as should all uncapped or open sewer lines.
